April - June The HOKE COUNTY COALITION AGAINST HOMELESSNESS meets the second Monday of each month at the Hoke County Public Library at 10 a.m. April 21 The Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC) will hold its next meeting at 1 p.m. in the conference room of the Department of Juvenile Justice and Delin quency Prevention, 127 W. April 22 - May 13 Liberty Homecare and Hospice is offering GRIEF SUPPORT GROUPS from 12-2 p.m. in the living room of Open Arms Retirement Center, 612 Health Dr. This group is free and open to anyone dealing with issues of loss and grief. April 24 A COMMUNTTY SAFE CELEBRATION will be held at the National Guard Armory, 305 Teal Dr., from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. There will be free food, entertain ment, games, inflatables, a clown and face painting. This event is sponsored by Alcohol & Dmg Services, Hoke for HOPE (Healthy Outcomes through Prevention Efforts) a NC SPF SIG Initiative and Sandhills Center (MH/DD/ SAS). This local event promotes total health and physical fitness for all seniors ages 55 and above. Seniors will be competing in bowling, horseshoes, shuffleboard, table tennis, putt-putt golf, golf, arts and crafts, poems, short stories, comedy/drama, line dance and singing. Hoke County seniors compete against Robeson and Bladen county seniors. If you are interested in participating or for informa tion contact Pat Graham at 875-4035. April 26 & May 10 RELAY FOR LIFE TEAM CAPTAINS’ MEETING will be held in the Raeford United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. 7 p.m. Meeting; 6:30 p.m. Accounting. May 1 A HOKE COUNTY GOP MEETING will be held at Ann’s Coffee Shop (for merly Cactus Creek Coffee House), Hwy 401, at 9 a.m. The NC Turkey Festival will host the 3RD ANNUAL “SPRING FLING’’ from 7 p.m. -11 p.m. at the Raeford Civic Center. Cost is $5.00 per person. Music and karaoke will be provided by DJ David Kitchens. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will also be served. May 7 Liberty Hospice is having a MOTHER’S DAY MEMORIAL EVENT at the Raeford-Hoke Museum, 111 South Highland Street, at 5 p.m. This outdoor service will be to honor the memory of mothers who are no longer with us. This event is free and open to the public. We are hoping to compile a “Memory Cookbook” so send us one of your mother’s recipes. Mail recipes and RSVP by May 3 to Myeshia Regan, 336 S. A BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT GROUP MEETING will be held at the Hoke County Health Center from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. The topic will be Infant Bonding & Child Discipline. The speaker will be Brenda Currie, Parent Educator with Parents as Teachers Program. The public is invited. There will be door prizes and refreshments. May 8 A RABIES CLINIC will be held in the Paraclete Wind Tunnel Parking Lot, just off 401, near Hoke/Cumberland Line, fROM 10 a.m.. - 1 p.m. Cost will be $6.00 PER ANIMAL (DOGS & CATS ONLY). The owner’s of all dogs and cats three (3) months of age or older shall have the dogs or cats vaccinated against rabies with an approved vaccine administer by a licensed veterinarian. The veterinarian shall issue the owner of the animal a vaccination certificate, and such owner shall retain such certificate until the vaccination is renewed. At the time of the vaccination, a metal tag shall be issued by the veterinarian showing the information required by G.S. 130A-190. May 8 & May 20 FAMILIES ALL READ (F.A.R.) programs — May 8,2 p.m.: Who Loves Me?; May 20,6:30 p.m.: Let’s Go To The Beach! Children ages 0-5 will receive a free book when accompanied by a parent. F.A.R. is a Smart Start funded program and is designed to encourage parents and children to “go F.A.R.” with reading together and is held at the Hoke County Public Library.
